Freezing Rain

Normally, I pride myself in running in any weather.  In fact, my favorite runs are in the winter when it's still dark and my breath lights up as it passes through the stream of my headlight.  Winter running really is a joy for me.  However, there is an exception to this rule: the freezing rain. There really is nothing a runner can do when the rain creates a solid, slippery, sheet on the pavement.  Not only is it a dangerous surface to run on, but it's dangerous for the cars that can potentially slide into a brave/foolish runner as well.  Therefore, today's weather kept me off the roads for our first Team in Training meetup :(.  It was cancelled due to the weather.

Luckily, I got my longish run in on Saturday morning.  I left the house at 6:00 a.m. in a crisp 22 degrees.  It was just the way I like it: empty roads, a thin layer of snow had fallen the night before, the sun was starting rise and cast a glow that slowly turned into an all out shine.  I got in my 11 miles in time for a spin class. Perfect way to start the weekend in my book.

The rest of this weekend has been a mix of Christmas prep, massive grading attempts, and dodging this yucky sunday weather.  I actually can't believe it's Sunday night!  How was everyone else's weekend?

Total Mileage for this week: 27
Pace: Not keeping track yet
Fundraising Total this week: $455!

  1. I am with you - I love running in the winter. I don't get the really bad stuff where I am at, and the freezing rain doesn't come very often, but when it does I would have to do the same thing.
